JAMIE THEAKSTON’S lively history series turns its eye to the Vatican, and ponders what mysteries might lie within its archives. The lines of inquiry include whether Pope Pius XII helped the Nazis, and a suggestion that Pope John Paul I was murdered by the Mafia.

Salvage Hunters, 9pm, Quest DREW PRITCHARD has been around the block when it comes to antiques, but there are some people in the trade even he doesn’t know. Tonight, he meets two of them – a pair of veteran dealers in Leeds who have been trading since Drew was in nappies and have a rather intriguing shop.

TRUE CRIME Family Man, 9pm, C+I

THIS particular­ly dark new truecrime documentar­y explores the subject of familicide – when a killer murders close family members before taking their own life. The three cases covered include that of Robert Mochrie, who killed his wife and four children in Barry, Wales, in 2000. (Sky 156, Virgin 225)

TOP COP Tommy, 9pm, Alibi

AFTER an accidental shooting, plain-speaking LAPD chief Abigail (Edie Falco) makes a statement, leaving the legal department with a headache. There’s plenty of plainspeak­ing elsewhere, too, as the case involves computer games – and the characters spend a lot of time explaining technical terms to us.

ROAD TRIP

Uncle Frank, Amazon Prime LARGELY easy-to-watch drama set amid the pleasures and prejudices of Seventies America, told from the perspectiv­e of an innocent 18-yearold (Sophia Lillis) who learns that the urban uncle she reveres (Paul Bettany) is gay. The film’s crux is a road trip to a funeral, which is familiar ground for writer-director Alan Ball (Six Feet Under).

FUNNY STORIES The Emily Atack Show, 10pm, ITV2

IN A new episode of her selfmockin­g mix of stand-up and sketch comedy, the full-on Emily (pictured) focuses on the importance of appearance. For her, this involves some of the perils of exercising and of having one overly attractive friend, plus a dissection of her own Instagram images.

BEHIND THE CAMERA Sofia Coppola: Life Cinematic, 10pm, BBC4

EDITH BOWMAN talks to director Sofia Coppola about her influences – ranging from Hollywood classic Gilda to edgy British film Fish Tank (which follows) – and the impact of her dad, Francis Ford Coppola, on her tastes. LIKE Duel or Falling Down, but without the depth, this is a big, loud thriller in which a woman offends a man in traffic (Russell Crowe), and he goes on a big road rage rampage.
