A bit of Ice might just be the tonic we need

- By Eleanor Sharples

IT’S what viewers need to cheer us up during a winter lockdown – ice, with a topping of stars.

Dancing On Ice returns on Sunday with 12 celebrities seeking to entertain with their routines. Singer Myleene Klass, 42, actor Jason Donovan, 52, and former Olympic hurdler Colin Jackson, 53, head the line-up, which also includes West End star Denise Van Outen, 46, Wag and ex-model

Rebekah Vardy, 38, and TV personality Billie Shepherd, 30. Emmerdale star Joe-Warren Plant, 18, skier Graham Bell, 55, rapper Lady Leshurr, 32, comedian Rufus Hound, 41, radio DJ Sonny Jay, 27, and former Coronation Street actress Faye Brookes, 33, complete the list.

Mrs Vardy, who is married to footballer Jamie Vardy, revealed she injured her partner Andy Buchanan so badly during rehearsals that he had to go to hospital. ‘We were practicing a trick... it went very wrong and the back of my heel and my blade sliced his face open,’ she said.

‘It was quite scary. But it brings back the realisation that what we’re doing is really dangerous.’

Costello told the Irish Daily Mail late last night that the leak was a ‘slap in the face’ to the long-suffering survivors.

‘This whole process has been very difficult for them,’ he said. ‘There was a process planned where they would get a briefing on the report first where there would be supports made available.

‘To have it come out this way short-circuits it.

‘This is a deeply, deeply traumatic and personal report for many of the people that are still alive and their family members.’ Opposition TDs urged the Children’s Minister to refer the matter to the Gardaí.

Leas-Cheann Comhairle Catheri ne Connolly s ai d s he was ‘appalled’, adding that the leaking of the report was a deliberate action to create a certain narrative. ‘ The Minister promised us that this wouldn’t happen, that those who suffered in the homes would have the report before it was published’, the Independent TD told Raidió na Gaeltachta. ‘They wouldn’t give those affected a copy of the report in advance for fear it would be leaked, and then someone within government leaked it. ‘It didn’t happen by accident, that’s what’s so upsetting, it was very deliberate.’ Meanwhile, Sinn Féin has called the leak a ‘criminal offence’ and the party has sent a l etter to Minister O’Gorman asking him whether or not he has contacted the Gardaí over the matter.

‘It has emerged, because of the

Commission of Investigation Act 2004, that it is a criminal offence to leak information from that report,’ said Sinn Féin’s spokeswoman on children Kathleen Funchion.

A spokesman for the Department of the Taoiseach said that the issue will be discussed at the Cabinet meeting today.

‘The leaking of the document will be discussed at Cabinet at the r equest of t he Minister f or Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.’
