Walk, swim, bake... or just get dressed up when you feel down

-

MY idea of escapism probably won’t win any awards for creativity. It’s impulsive – rooted in emotion and nostalgia. It’s little things, often so basic as a cup of coffee sitting under my skylight when the sun is shining. But it works for me. It keeps me ticking.

Never has there been a greater desire (or need) for distraction from reality. For so many, it’s fresh air. Getting out for a 5km stretch without the kids in your ear, or joining the band of infectiously-charged sea swimmers. For others, it’s staying in a cloud-like bundle on the couch with their favourite movie. Some days it’s embracing the downright ridiculous; getting dressed up in beautiful clothes to go nowhere because you cannot bear looking at another pair of leggings.

Most recently I found comfort via a deep-dive into baking recipes. Who knew perfecting a strawberry and rhubarb cobbler could be therapeutic? Here are some other small but meaningful favourites to distract and uplift this week...
