‘IN THE U.S. THERE WOULD BE A PUBLIC OUTCRY OVER THIS’

-

‘I FLEW in from Paris on a connecting flight from the United States nights after hearing that I would have to quarantine in a hotel for 12 days if I stretched out my stay any longer.

‘I’m living in Ireland with my husband, but travelled back home to West Virginia so I could get fully vaccinated.

‘I’m a type 1 diabetic and really didn’t feel comfortable waiting such a long time to get the Covid shots over here.

‘When I heard the news, I said to myself: “I need to mobilise right now” and get back to avoid the €1,875 quarantine fee.

‘It was good timing because I had my second shot on Friday and found out about the quarantine list on the same evening.

‘I had been planning on staying home for another month, but knew returning to Ireland would save me so much hassle.

‘I travelled five hours from West Virginia to Washington DC to get a PCR test, and then got a connecting flight from Paris to Dublin.

‘I’m planning on buying a new home with my husband and didn’t want to delay or complicate the process with me being so far away.

‘To be honest I think making people quarantine in a hotel for 12 days is infringing on their rights. In the US there would be public outcry if something like this was introduced.

‘But the thing that’s really bothering me is that everyone is just letting the Irish Government do whatever they want, and as an American that shocks me.’
