Late Late 80th birthday wishes for the President

- Irish Daily Mail Reporter

PRESIDENT Michael D Higgins will be honoured on tonight’s Late Late Show as he celebrates his 80th birthday.

Host Ryan Tubridy will be joining Mr Higgins in Áras an Uachtaráin to mark the milestone on the show.

The President turns 80 this Sunday, so Tubridy sat down with him in a pre-recorded interview to discuss the head of State’s hopes for Ireland’s future.

Tubridy revealed on Instagram yesterday how he was filming his chat with the President in the Áras ahead of tonight’s show.

And judging by the post, it seems Mr Higgins’s new puppy Misneach stole the host’s heart as he doted on the five-month-old Bernese mountain dog at the Áras.

Misneach, whose name means ‘courage’, was confirmed as President Higgins’s new pup earlier this year after his previous pet Síoda sadly died last September.

Tubs shared a snap of himself and the President taking his two dogs, Bród and Misneach, for a walk around the grounds of the Áras as they chatted.

Tonight’s star-studded line-up also includes Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates.

Ireland rugby captain Johnny Sexton will also be joining Tubridy to speak about his chances of making the Lions team, the return of Simon Zebo to Munster, and lending his support to DEBRA Ireland, a charity for sufferers of the painful skin condition epidermolysis bullosa.

Claudia Scanlon, who has the condition, will be joined by her mother Liz to speak to Tubridy about thriving against the odds.

There will also be some top performances tonight as Imelda May treats us to a song from her new album. Noel Hogan and Bronagh Gallagher are also on the bill, debuting their song Crybaby. The show airs at 9.35pm on RTÉ One.
