PENTATHLON: Ireland’s Natalya Coyle and Sive Brassil had contrasting fortunes in their bid to qualify for the women’s final in the second leg of the UIPM 2021 Pentathlon World Cup in Sofia. Coyle’s progression was never in doubt and she crossed the line just one second behind the winner of her semi-final with 1,024 points. In the same qualification group, Brassil struggled in the fencing discipline and later withdrew from the Laser Run after feeling unwell, ending her involvement in the competition.

GOLF: SHANE LOWRY was unable to build on a fast start to the RBC Heritage on the PGA Tour yesterday. On a day of low scoring at Hilton Head in South Carolina, the Open champion birdied his opening two holes, the 10th and 11th. While four more birdies followed, including one at the 9th, his final hole, Lowry ran up five bogeys in a one under par round of 70. That left him eight strokes behind Cameron Smith who carded a superb career low 62.
