Barca blow as unsettled Aguero is out for 10 weeks

- PETE JENSON

SERGIO AGUERO will miss the first 10 weeks of the season amid ongoing doubts about his future at Barcelona. The former Manchester City striker, who has yet to make his debut for the club after being signed on a free transfer, has been sidelined by a problem in his right calf, Barcelona said yesterday. The 33-year-old will miss nine La Liga games and Barcelona’s first two Champions League matches. The injury comes after reports that Aguero wanted to leave Barcelona following Lionel Messi’s departure, and Spanish radio Cadena Ser reported yesterday that the player’s agents met club officials on Friday, 24 hours after the news that Messi was leaving. Messi had texted his close friend Aguero (above) last Wednesday saying he would see him at training on the Friday before Barcelona changed their minds about being able to offer him a new contract. Messi is expected to arrive in France today to sign for Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal worth around £70million. PSG supporters flocked to the club’s Parc des Princes stadium and to Le Bourget airport in the French capital yesterday but lawyers were still working through the final details of his contract and his private jet remained grounded at Barcelona airport. One group of desperate Barcelona fans have not given up on stopping Messi’s move to PSG, hiring French lawyer Juan Branco, who wants to bring the case to the European Commission. The group’s claim that Barcelona’s Financial Fair Play numbers were better than PSG’s in the 2019-20 season is not believed to have sufficient legal standing to stop the signing, if club and player can reach full agreement.
