- By Emma Powell

‘Getting clean is best thing I did’

HER raucous past saw her endure struggles with drugs and alcohol. After celebrating two years of sobriety, however, Lily Allen last night made her West End debut. The pop singer, 36, appeared at the opening night of a supernatural thriller in which she plays Jenny, who is convinced her house is haunted. She was joined on stage at London’s Noël Coward Theatre by cast members including EastEnders actor Jake Wood. Her starring role in 2:22 – A Ghost Story comes a fortnight after she marked two years of clean living.

The mother-of-two, who is also the daughter of actor Keith Allen and sister of Game Of Thrones star Alfie Allen, celebrated by showing off her new figure in photos shared on social media.

Ms Allen, who wore a black dress in the pictures, wrote: ‘Two years drug and alcohol free today! Getting clean is the BEST thing I ever did... Come see me in the play I’ve been working on.’

The singer, who has spoken openly about her struggles with addiction in the past, was praised by fans and friends including model Daisy Lowe, who hailed the milestone ‘incredible’. It came after the pop star defended herself against trolls who accused her of looking ‘too thin’ during an appearance on Channel 4’s The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan.

Ms Allen, who last year married Stranger Things actor David Harbour, 46, in a Las Vegas chapel, previously opened up about struggling with an eating disorder.

She told Cosmopolitan magazine in 2018: ‘Part of me getting ready for a show would be to vomit for 20 minutes... I just felt really fat and grotesque.’
