Barcelona humiliated... again!

-

BARCELONA suffered even more misery in Europe as they fell to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat by BENFICA last night. They went behind within three minutes, with striker Darwin Nunez making a mazy inside run before firing home just inside Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s near post. Luuk de Jong had two golden opportunities to level it, the second an open goal scuffed against the post — although his blushes were spared by the offside flag. Benfica carved through Barca for the second, with Ter Stegen initially saving from Joao Mario before Rafa Silva scooped it into the top corner. Sergino Dest then handballed for a penalty, which was rolled home for Nunez’s second. A disastrous night was completed by Eric Garcia’s late dismissal. The result heaps even more pressure on under-fire boss Ronald Koeman and is a continuation of a bleak start to life without Lionel Messi — the Catalan giants sit rock bottom of Group E with two defeats in their opening two games. BAYERN MUNICH, who easily defeated Barcelona 3-0 in the opening game, continued their flawless start with a 5-0 demolition of DYNAMO KIEV.

Robert Lewandowski was in typically ruthless form, opening the scoring from the penalty spot, before doubling the lead later in the first half — his fourth goal in Europe already this season. Ex-Arsenal forward Serge Gnabry then drove an effort into the roof of the net after he was played in by Leroy Sane. The former City man hit the fourth as he looked to have mishit a cross from out wide, only for it to fly past the Dynamo keeper. Eric ChoupoMoting completed the rout. Manchester United’s conquerors YOUNG BOYS were unable to build on their opening victory as they were defeated 1-0 by Italian side ATALANTA, with Matteo Pessina scoring the only goal.
