RANGERS’ KAMARA TARGETED AGAIN BY CROWD OF SCHOOLCHILDREN IN PRAGUE

- By DAVID KENT

GLEN KAMARA was persistently booed in a stadium full of schoolchildren before being sent off as Rangers lost 1-0 at Sparta Prague. The midfielder was targeted six months after being racially abused by Slavia Prague defender Ondrej Kudela, which earned the Czech Republic defender a 10-game UEFA ban. The Letna Stadium was meant to be shut for last night’s Europa League game after Monaco’s Aurelius Tchouameni was subjected to abuse by Sparta fans last season. UEFA instead agreed for the game to be played in front of 10,000 schoolchildren with some accompanying adults, but booing could be heard any time that Kamara (below) touched the ball. Already a goal down to David Hancko’s 29th-minute header, Kamara was booked just before half-time for a foul. He was harshly shown a second yellow card in the 74th minute when Turkish referee Ali Palabiyik ruled his arm had been raised dangerously in an aerial challenge. Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said he was not aware his player had been targeted by the crowd because he was ‘focused on the game’. But he added: ‘If those are the facts then I’m extremely disappointed — but not surprised.’ Kamara’s lawyer, Aamer Anwar, said: ‘This evening should be an embarrassment for the Czech side. Despite their fans being banned, it still made little difference that the stadium was filled with 10,000 children. ‘A huge proportion of those children booed Glen’s every touch of the ball along with every other black player for Rangers. It shows yet again that Prague has a serious problem with racism and as usual UEFA is nowhere to be seen.’
