Italians angry at mandatory vaccine pass

PROTESTS erupted across Italy yesterday as a ‘no jab, no job’ mandate came into force for all workers.

Everyone from magistrates to maids now have to show a health pass proving they have had at least one vaccine dose to get into their place of employment.

Those who do not will be suspended from work without pay unless they take a €21 test at their own expense every 48 hours.

Police were out in force yesterday and embassies issued warnings of possible violence amid concerns the anti-vaccination demonstrations could turn violent – as they did in Rome last weekend.

Trade unions warned the new measures, aimed at completing the vaccination campaign, could fuel social tensions and riots.

Italy already required the pass to access restaurants, museums, theatres and long-distance trains.
