Clooney turns down €31m for ‘questionable’ airline ad job

GEORGE Clooney turned down a $35million (€31million) advertising deal with an airline because it was linked to a ‘questionable’ foreign country, even though the job involved just one day’s work.

The actor decided with his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, that the deal wasn’t ‘worth it’.

Clooney, 60, did not disclose the company – or the country – when asked in an interview if he ever thinks, ‘You know what? I think I have enough money now’.

He told the Guardian: ‘Well, yeah. I was offered $35million for one day’s work for an airline commercial, but I talked to Amal about it and we decided it’s not worth it.

‘It was [associated with] a country that, although it’s an ally, is questionable at times, and so I thought: “Well, if it takes a minute’s sleep away from me, it’s not worth it”.’

Clooney is no stranger to advertising, having reportedly raked in more than $40million (€35million) as the face of Swiss coffee giant Nespresso.

Earlier this year he became the latest star to feature in a TV ad for British bakery Warburtons.

He donated his fee to the Clooney Foundation For Justice, which he founded with his 43-year-old wife to target human rights abuses around the world.

The A-list couple have a net worth of £300million (€350million), according to the Sunday Times Rich List.

They married in Venice, Italy, in 2014 and are parents to four-year-old twins Alexander and Ella. The Gravity actor said they do not have an army of nannies and revealed he did household chores throughout lockdown.

‘We have a nanny four days a week and the rest of the time it’s just us. And during lockdown, it was just us for a full year! I felt like my mother in 1964, doing dishes and six loads of laundry a day.’
