AMBER’S AN ADDICT AND AN EMOTIONAL LIABILITY, SAYS HER NURSE

- From Daniel Bates in New York

AMBER Heard was addicted to alcohol and cocaine and jealous of Johnny Depp’s fame, her former nurse told their defamation trial last night.

Erin Falati worked with the couple from 2014 and was on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

She told the jury that the Aquaman actress admitted to substance abuse and once laughed about being ‘high for 24 hours’ at a music festival. The star also allegedly told Miss Falati she had ‘feelings of insecurity and jealousy’ about Depp’s success.

Heard was jealous of her thenhusband being around other women and exhibited emotions which would ‘spin like a pendulum’ from one extreme to the other, Miss Falati also alleged.

The claims came as Depp closed his case in the fourth week of the trial. The Pirates of the Caribbean star is suing for $50million (€47.5m) claiming that his ex-wife destroyed his career with a 2018 article in the Washington Post in which she said she was a survivor of domestic violence. She’s suing Depp for $100m (€95m), claiming his legal team smeared her.

Miss Falati told the court in Fairfax, Virginia, that she treated Heard from August 2014 until May 2016 when the actress filed for divorce and a restraining order.

In notes from her first meeting with Heard, Miss Falati said she admitted a history of substance abuse including an ‘addiction to cocaine and liquor’.

‘Heard does not smoke but reports she drinks “one to three glasses of red wine a day”,’ the notes read. ‘Familial history of substance abuse, both mother and father have abused and become dependent on stimulants. Client admits to a history of anxiety, eating disorder, attention deficit disorder, bipolar disorder, co-dependence issues and occasional insomnia.’

Miss Falati also wrote at the time: ‘Client expressed concern to husband and Dr Kipper [Depp’s personal doctor] she is nervous about being alone while husband is working [on movie set in London] and expressed she has difficulty dealing with feelings of insecurity and jealousy when not in presence of her husband.’ The notes added that Heard had been ‘experiencing increased agitation recently and has had several outbursts of anger and rage. Her mood has been labile’.

Asked what ‘labile’ meant, Miss Falati said: ‘Emotional lability is when emotions spin on a pendulum, you see someone sad and quickly transition to extreme happiness.’

In her records from May 2016, she described how Heard admitting taking magic mushrooms and ecstasy at the Coachella music festival and was ‘high for at least 24 hours straight’.

The notes stated: ‘Client laughed and also reported using illicit drugs (mushrooms and MDMA) at home with a high-profile male acquaintance. Heard reported that her husband was not aware of the male visitor, nor her illicit drug use.’

Before mounting their defence, Heard’s lawyers tried to get the case dismissed but Judge Penney Azcarate rejected their request.

Heard’s lawyer, Benjamin Rotternborn, said that if the court agreed that Depp abused his exwife ‘even one time, she wins – it’s that simple’. But raising his voice, Depp’s lawyer, Benjamin Chew, told the court: ‘She’s the abuser in this courtroom!’

The trial continues.
