Pantene Hair Biology Menopause Hair Thickening & Scalp Soothing(€18.74, boots.ie) AN ALL-ROUND booster with antioxidants to protect the scalp, stimulants such as panthenol and caffeine, temporary thickeners and hydrating agents. VERDICT: This has some great scalp-strengthening ingredients, but contains silicones that can stop these penetrating.

Absolute Collagen Thickening Conditioner, (€24.96, amazon.com) EMPLOYS collagen amino acids (from animal sources) said to penetrate the hair to strengthen protein bonds. VERDICT: I’m not sure this can thicken hair long-term. 3/5

PREVENT HAIR FALL

Kerastase Genesis Anti-Hair-Fall Fortifying Serum (€34, petermark.ie) ITS ‘anti-fall complex’ is

basically a skin serum for the ageing scalp, with ingredients that protect and support healthy hair growth. VERDICT: This light serum won’t stop hair-shedding that’s already happening, but long-term use does help prevent it re-occurring. 4/5

BRITTLE HAIR

K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask (from €11.72, cultbeauty.com) THIS silicone-free, leavein ‘plex’ was designed to revert breakage in chemically treated and ageing hair. VERDICT: Doesn’t weigh hair down but does volumise. With regular use of this and the in-salon version, hair breaks noticeably less often. 5/5

COMBAT DULLNESS

Windle Lab Healthy Head Shampoo (€28, windlelondon.com) THIS fortifies hair and scalp and protects colour fade, tackling many issues that come with age. VERDICT: The active ingredients and gentle cleansers make for a healthy scalp. 5/5
