WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND

SUMMER SUIT

MY SUMMER season is less Ascot and more Aldi, but I do have a few fancy-ish events to attend and I’m in a quandary. How can I look like I’ve made an effort without being over-dressed?

A floral midi? Boring. Jumpsuit? I can’t face the hassle when it comes to going to the loo. Co-ords (matching tops and bottoms)? Nice, but I always feel like I’m in PJs.

Step forward the colourful suit.

ICE-CREAM HUES

COLOURFUL is the key word when it comes to a suit for summer. It can’t be grey, black or navy blue or you’ll look like you’re on your way to the office rather than hobnobbing at Henley.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’m actually a fan of the many pastel tones on offer. Though, if icecream shades are too sickly for you, then worry not, there are plenty of bold brights available, too.

KEEP IT TAILORED

TURN to Victoria Beckham, Alexander McQueen and Gucci (of course) for encouragement. They inspired the striking structured tailoring (nothing too relaxed, no dropped shoulders and not too wide on the legs) that has taken over the High Street.

The result is a reassuringly traditional, universally flattering suit — just in a fun shade.

HEELS OR LOAFERS?

I LOVE this pink two-piece I’m wearing from Me+Em. I’ve dressed it down with a boyfriend shirt and loafers, but will be dressing it up with a silk camisole and a fabulous pair of metallic heels for a friend’s wedding next month.

The cream Reiss suit below wouldn’t be right for a wedding, but it is the perfect choice for a day at the races.
