Under-30s consider sex to be form of flirting, study reveals

- By Victoria Allen

FLIRTING is fairly easy for women looking for a fling, with top tactics likely to attract men including dressing sexily and touching his arm.

But perhaps women are less shallow, meaning men have to work a little harder when flirting with them.

These are the findings of a study which asked almost 1,000 people under 30 to rate the flirting tactics they thought worked best. The study, published in the journal Evolutionary Psychology, involved 415 people in Norway as well as 577 in the US being given a questionnaire.

Presented with 40 flirting tactics, they had to rate each one, on a scale from highly effective to not very effective.

Both men and women rated the flirting strategies, with each being asked at random if they thought they would work on either their own sex or the opposite sex for either a short-term fling or longterm relationship.

The young study participants insisted full sex was a type of flirting in the modern world, so this was included.

While men and women were thought to appreciate very different types of flirtation when looking for a fling, they were judged much more similar when it came to dating someone they had their eye on for a serious relationship.
