63 years on, Fonda’s a cover girl again
SIXTY-THREE years have passed since she first graced the front of Glamour magazine in America.
At 84, however, it’s clear Jane Fonda still has what it takes to be a cover girl.
The veteran actress poses on the front of the latest issue – with the image overlaid on a replica of the July 1959 edition which featured a striking close-up of the then 21-year-old.
Now, her grey hair is swept back and she wears a dash of pink lipstick as she stands in a pink and black Gucci dress with a golden bow.
Ms Fonda, who released a series of fitness videos in the 1980s, clearly hasn’t let age slow
‘Feeling as good as I do’
her down, despite being in what she calls her ‘final act’.
Pictures inside show the actress, whose films include Barbarella and Klute, modelling a shocking pink outfit of trousers, top and baggy coat. Her 1959 outfits were a little more conventional, with one image showing her in a belted green dress.
One item in that picture would probably not be included today, however – as she is seen holding a cigarette.
Ms Fonda, daughter of Hollywood legend Henry Fonda, said of the 1959 cover: ‘I wasn’t famous. In those days, magazines just put models on the cover and I was a model.
‘If somebody had told me that, at almost 85 years old, I’d still be working as much as I am and feeling as good as I do, I wouldn’t have believed them.’
