F1’S NEWEST TRACK HAS A FAKE MARINA, YACHTS AND DOLPHINS!

-

WELCOME TO MIAMI: This is the first race in F1’s 10-year deal with the Miami International Autodrome, and should make for spectacular viewing: going around the grounds of the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins NFL team, the track is a combination of existing roads and new ones specially built for the race.

WALK ON WATER: The yachts on the marina on the insides of turn 6,7 and 8 will catch the eye — but the circuit is nowhere near the sea and the marina is fake. The ‘water’ is in fact a layer of painted wood, with the yachts parked up on trailers!

THRILLS AND SPILLS: Drivers are anticipating plenty of opportunities to go wheel to wheel — particularly at left-hand turns 11 and 17, which come at the end of the two longest straights. AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly said confidently: ‘There is going to be a lot of overtaking. It looks fast so I’m excited.’

IT’S HOTTING UP: Temperatures as high as 32oC are expected this weekend, to the extent that Lewis Hamilton is preparing to lose as much as a stone and a half. ‘I heard the temperatures are going to be super high,’ he said. ‘Friday I will likely lose 6-7lbs, then 6-7lbs the next day, then during the race, it could be up to 10lbs.’
