SHE has been lapping up rave reviews for her one-woman play in the West End.

But Jodie Comer was last night recognised for her screen talent – as she scooped the best actress prize at the Bafta television awards.

The Killing Eve star, 29, was honoured for her role in Channel 4’s Help, about the care crisis in Britain during the coronavirus pandemic. After she collected the accolade, Ms Comer thanked carers who helped the show’s researchers.

‘The biggest reward is that they felt truly represented with a telling of this story,’ Ms Comer, who is currently in theatre show Prima Facie, told the audience at London’s Royal Festival Hall.

Her Help co-star Cathy Tyson was also rewarded for her role in Jack Thorne’s one-off drama, as she was named best supporting actress.

Elsewhere, Irish actress and writer Sharon Horgan saw her acclaimed series

Motherland win Best Scripted Comedy, while BBC show Together – in which she stars alongside James McAvoy – was named Best Single Drama. Ms Horgan was unable to attend the ceremony but wrote on Instagram: ‘I am celebrating by doing weird dances in my kitchen while making a roast in mouldy tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt with a stain.’

Co. Kildare’s Aisling Bea missed out on the Best Female Performance in a Comedy award for her role in This Way Up.

The only award voted for by the public was handed to Strictly Come Dancing’s Rose Ayling-Ellis, 27, who is deaf, and Giovanni Pernice, 31. The pair won the must-see moment award for their poignant Couple’s Choice silent dance to Symphony last year. EastEnders star Ms Ayling-Ellis said: ‘It is a very special moment for us because hopefully it showed how powerful TV can be, where it has actually introduced changes.’

BBC1 prison drama Time picked up the award for best mini-series while Sean Bean was named best leading actor for his role as prisoner Mark Cobden.
