THE day after the lockdown 1.0 lifted, I remember meeting my two best friends for lunch in the Westbury. The rain was horizontal and I was still in the throes of post-partum exhaustion while navigating another cancelled wedding, yet both pals commented on the cheerful orange dress I was wearing. In those strange lulls between lockdowns, I now realise that the most colourful, print-heavy dresses in my wardrobe became my saviour. I may love the simplicity and easy coordination of neutrals, but there’s something so powerful about bolder shades. Not only do they stand out from the crowd, but if you believe in the therapeutic effects of fashion, they do wonders for your soul and spirit.

This season’s spring/summer collections are drenched in them, from plush purples, daffodils and ceruleans to burnt orange, emerald and dusty pinks. Closer to home, Laura Chambers’s fluffy lightweight knits provide a dopamine hit in spades.
