WHAT TO WEAR THIS WEEKEND

- by Dinah van Tulleken STYLE EDITOR

Find a design with a detachable collar that can be added to other outfits. Collars look great over knitwear

THE STATEMENT COLLAR

THIS outfit may look like a standard floral shirt and white jeans combination, but the addition of a simple sailor collar elevates an easy, everyday outfit and turns it into something special. It’s one of my favourite, effortless fashion cheats.

CHANEL SECRET

YOU can’t have missed the statement collar’s slow, but certain, fashion takeover. It started back in 2020 when Virginie Viard, in her first Chanel ready-to-wear show following the death of Karl Lagerfeld, sent models down the runway in super-size collars. Then Danish brand Ganni propelled them into the mainstream with its popular poplin shirts.

EASY-TO-WEAR

THEY started as something ludicrously OTT, a real statement, but thankfully they’ve become a wearable addition on shirts, blouses and dresses, too.

Ganni still does it best — check out their blue check below — but this is now a trend that covers every budget. You don’t need to spend a fortune to find good cuts in quality fabrics.

NO-FRILLS FUN

THIS stretch cotton design is by Ghost, and I love its simplicity. No lace, no frills, no ruffles but still fashionable — and fun.

Keep your eyes peeled for styles like Baukjen’s pure cotton design, where the collar is detachable, giving you a simple shirt when necessary, as well as a collar you can throw over plain T-shirts, lightweight summer knits, even blazers.

High Street favourite New Look has a fabulous selection for about €20, too.
