Model mother proudly shows her battle scars
SO a C-section scar has graced the pages of Sports Illustrated – a glossy US magazine with a mostly male (and middle aged) readership. Mum Kelly Hughes, who delivered her son by C-section three years ago, proudly flashes her scar, visible above her bikini bottoms, pictured. ‘I struggled with insecurities from my scar, being that I’m a model and my incredibly difficult recovery, but it wasn’t until I embraced my scar that I experienced the true power in it,’ she wrote on social media this week. I’m also the owner of not just a double C-scar from my two babies, but also one doozy that runs horizontally across the entire width of my lower abdomen. This was thanks to my decision to have an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) to remove the excess skin and torn muscles that my ginormous bumps provided. I still cover my scars, and I’m not sure why, as they are now silvery strands. Perhaps it’s the fear of judgement – of having C-sections and cosmetic surgery? Anyway, it’s about time that post-partum bodies are celebrated, and normalised.
