Along came a spider (monkey)

- By Arthur Parashar

THE look on her face says, ‘Don’t monkey around with me’, as a very protective Norma the monkey shows off her sweet new baby at Fota Wildlife Park.

The baby was born in the Co. Cork park in March and the public are today being asked to name the beautiful, but endangered, Colombian black spider monkey.

The tiny monkey – whose gender is not yet known – was born to Norma, 11, and Pinky, ten, as part of a European breeding programme. It’s their third baby.

Teresa Power, lead ranger at Fota, said: ‘The birth helps us raise awareness about species loss in the wild and the conservation work here at Fota.’

See www.fotawildlife.ie for more details about naming the little cutie.
