PICK OF THE DAY
EUROVISION SONG CONTEST, 8PM, RTÉ ONE/BBC1
IRELAND’S hopes of a first Eurovision title in a generation were dashed at the semi-final stage on Thursday when on Brooke Scullion and her song That’s Rich failed to progress – so we get to all root for the bookies’ favourites, Ukraine. They will, however, face some stiff competition – the hosts and last year’s winners Italy are predicted to do well, and some are even suggesting that after ‘nul points’ last year, the UK (it’s Sam Ryder with his tune Space Man this time) might be a contender. Musician Mika is one of the hosts, alongside Italian presenter Alessandro Cattelan and singer Laura Pausini. Marty Whelan (right) will talk us through any upsets on RTÉ, while on the BBC it’s another Irishman, Graham Norton, on commentary.
