Pep: We’ll give our lives to win league

- By SAMI MOKBEL

PEP GUARDIOLA has urged his players to write their own history as Manchester City gear up for a tense final day in the race for Premier League glory. The City boss insists his players will give their lives to pip Liverpool to the title after rescuing a point at West Ham yesterday. City are four points ahead of Liverpool, who can reduce the gap with victory over Southampton tomorrow, ahead of what is gearing up to be a tense last day on Sunday. And Guardiola, whose side host Aston Villa, harked back to City’s first Premier League crown, 48 hours after the 10th anniversary of Sergio Aguero’s title-winning goal. ‘That moment a decade ago belongs to Sergio, Roberto Mancini and all of the players who were there,’ said Guardiola. ‘I’d say it is similar because it depends on us. It will be tough because there is one part that is emotional and you have to analyse exactly what you have to do to beat Villa. We will give everything that we have to win the title. We need to win our game to be champions. If we don’t win, Liverpool will be champions. ‘I can assure you something: in one week our stadium will be sold out and we will give them all of our lives over 95 minutes and they will give us their lives. ‘It is an incredible privilege to have the chance with our people at home to win one game to be champions. I’m looking forward to it.’ Meanwhile, West Ham boss David Moyes is backing Jarrod Bowen to earn an England call-up after his two goals against City took his season’s tally to 18. ‘I remember there was a lot of talk about it earlier in the year and I wondered if he was doing enough,’ said Moyes. ‘It’s not for me to pick the England team but I now think Jarrod is doing as well as anyone in England.’
