WARY? IT’S IN MY DNA...
ON Monday night’s Claire Byrne Live programme on RTÉ One, the host revealed the results of a DNA test she had taken. It showed she was 98% Irish and 2% Norwegian, which I suspect most of us are thanks to our Viking past.
So no shocks there, but others have received many. We have heard of people who found out the man they thought was their father actually wasn’t, while others who believed they were lone children found out, with mixed emotional results, that they had siblings who had been adopted after teenage pregnancies the mothers had never revealed.
Personally, despite being tempted all the time, I’ve never had my DNA analysed. I know my lineage going back five generations on my father’s paternal and maternal sides, and a good bit too about my maternal grandmother’s family.
So while it’s pointless, I’m also a bit terrified that if I ever did take the test, the conclusion would be that I’m actually 73% cabernet sauvignon.
