Joe’s Nordic Nato boost
PRESIDENT Joe Biden has welcomed Finland and Sweden’s bid to join Nato, saying they would make the alliance stronger.
He met Swedish prime minister Magdalena Andersson and Finnish president Sauli Niinisto at the White House yesterday – days after Turkey refused to support their bids. Mr Biden said of Finland and Sweden: ‘They’re strong, strong democracies – and a strong, united Nato is the foundation of America’s security.’
It came after former president George W Bush mistakenly condemned Russia’s ‘wholly unjustified and brutal invasion of Iraq’.
The 75-year-old, who led the operation against dictator Saddam Hussein in 2003, blamed his age as he corrected the gaffe during a speech in Dallas.
