LITTLE SANTINA SHOULD HAVE BEEN TUCKED UP IN HER OWN BED AT 3AM

-

THAT heart-breaking image of murdered toddler Santina Cawley, pictured, in her pink sun-hat and her multicoloured tutu, gives a clue to just how small and vulnerable she really was: the strawberry she’s holding looks as big as an apple in her tiny hand. The trial heard her father Michael, who was minding her for the night, had gone off looking for a cousin, during a night of drinking, and left his daughter in his girlfriend’s care at 3am. The blame for her brutal death lies squarely with Karen Harrington, who beat her so badly that the pathologist couldn’t count the blows, but I can’t help feeling a little child of that age should have been safely tucked up in her own bed at three in the morning.
