‘OLD AND FAT’ MCGILLIS DIDN’T WANT TOP GUN 2

TOM CRUISE has been criticised for not bringing back his first Top Gun love interest, Kelly McGillis, both pictured, for the sequel, Maverick, which has been getting rave reviews for his performance as a veteran test pilot emerging from retirement, 30 years on, for one last dangerous mission. Before taking offence on her behalf, though, those critics should have checked with Kelly, who hadn’t the slightest interest in playing anyone’s love interest, thanks very much: Now 64, she says, ‘I’m old, I’m fat and I look age-appropriate, and that’s not what that scene is about.’ She’s happy to look her age, rather than suffer the surgery and diets that keep the likes of 76-year-old Charlie’s Angel Jaclyn Smith looking eerily young. Anyway, it’s not as if she’s been replaced by a teenager: Tom’s new co-star, Jennifer Connelly is 51 to his 59.
