Pair are arrested over stab death of mother

- By Ian Begley

A MAN and a woman have been arrested in connection with the killing of Lisa Thompson – two months after the mother of two was found dead in her home in Ballymun.

The pair, who are both aged in their 30s, were arrested at about 2pm yesterday and are being held at separate Garda stations in Dublin.

They are suspected of being involved in the killing of the mother-of-two who was stabbed up to 12 times in her home in Sandyhill Gardens.

Her body was discovered on May 10 when her neighbours raised the alarm. It’s understood the 52-year-old former youth worker had lain in the terraced house for several days. The man and woman arrested can be held for up to 24 hours.

A security source told the Irish Daily Mail that gardaí have gathered a significant amount of CCTV footage and forensics which they believe will be crucial in bringing those responsible for Ms Thompson’s murder to justice.

Detectives had also examined her phone to see who she was in contact with before being killed.

Ms Thompson was socialising at her home with several people a few days before she was found.

A source said it is not known for certain when the killing took place, but that the assailant may have fled through her back garden and over a wall. ‘The back door was left open when her body was discovered so it’s possible the killer may have fled out her garden to avoid being seen,’ the source said.

There was also no sign of a break-in or a struggle inside her property, which supports a theory that Ms Thompson knew her killer.

It’s also suspected that Ms Thompson, pictured, was battling ‘certain issues’ over the past few months and had inadvertently become associated with people known to the gardaí.

However, there is no evidence Ms Thompson was involved in any way with crime.

It’s understood that Ms Thompson’s son, 13, and daughter, 12, were at a local youth centre with their father upon hearing of her death.
