Status Yellow warning for three counties
IT WILL be wet, wet, wet for the coming days, with a rain warning in place for three counties today – but the sun will return later this week.
Residents in Kerry, Clare and Galway are being warned that there’s a Status Yellow Rain Warning from 12pm today through to noon tomorrow, with heavy rain increasing the risk of localised flooding.
But it’s not just those counties that are going to feel the rain – with Met Éireann meteorologist Matthew Martin predicting ‘persistent rainfall’ for all areas from the afternoon.
He said: ‘Rain will become quite persistent across Munster and Connacht this morning through to lunchtime. It will extend to all areas in the afternoon with some heavy bursts in it too.
‘It will also become quite breezy too,’ he added. However, Mr Martin
has said that despite the rain, it will be quite a humid day – with temperatures ranging from 17 to 21C. Another band of rain will occur tonight, especially affecting the southwest and west.
Meanwhile a ‘slow-moving front’ will move across the country tomorrow, bringing with it outbreaks of scattered showers that will ‘mainly affect the north and west’.
Some parts of the southeast will remain dry, with temperatures ranging from 17 to 23C.
However, a cold front that develops on Tuesday night will gradually bring with it cooler air, alongside sunny spells and scattered showers, with temperatures dropping down to 16 to 19C.
A band of high pressure developing in the latter part of the week will hopefully result in dry and settled conditions for the upcoming weekend.
On Wednesday, there will be a mix of sunny spells and light scattered showers. It will be cooler than previous days, with highest temperatures of 15 to 20C with moderate southwest winds veering northwesterly.
Wednesday will be a cooler night than of late, with lowest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees, with northwest winds falling light.
On Thursday, it will remain mostly dry with the possibility of long spells of sunshine as high pressure looks to build. It will be fresher though, with highest temperatures of 14 to 18C in light to moderate northwesterly winds.
