Farrell found Penguin role a joy and wants to dive back into sequel

- By Mark McGreal

COLIN Farrell seemed enthusiastic about jumping back into the top hat to play the Penguin in a possible sequel to The Batman.

The 46-year-old actor talked about the possibility of taking on the role of Oswald Cobblepot once again in an interview with Entertainment Tonight.

‘Oh my god, you kidding me?’ he said at the premiere for the Ron Howard film Thirteen Lives, in which he plays diver John Volanthen.

‘It’s so much fun, are you joking [with] me? I’ve been around the block man. That was an easy sport, I mean… it was a joy.’

Farrell played the role in The Batman, which came out in March. A sequel for the film was announced in April.

The sequel is set to star Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader and will be directed by Matt Reeves, who helmed the first film.

‘Matt’s up to his boll **** , you know, hovering over the keyboard and just planning the story because he’s just so meticulous,’ the In Bruges actor said.

While he hasn’t officially been announced to join the second film in the series,

Farrell was already set to return to Penguin in an upcoming miniseries based on the character.

‘[Reeves is] so obsessive about what he does, but he’s all over The Penguin as well,’ he continued.

‘I mean, he’s not gonna direct it but he’s all over the structure of the scripts and who’s gonna direct them. And so, it’s exciting.’

The Batman was both a critical and commercial success after its release earlier in the year.

The film, made on a budget of close to $200 million, took in nearly $370 million at the domestic box office and more than $400 million internationally, according to Box Office Mojo.

It received four MTV Movie & TV Awards nominations at this year’s ceremony and holds a 85% critics score on the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.

Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis starred alongside Pattinson and Farrell in the film.
