PRESENTING a royal day of ‘firsts’. Prince Charles arrives to join the Royal Navy and his brother, Prince Edward, begins his first day at school. Prince Edward, aged seven, will be studying at Gibbs Preparator­y School in Kensington.

THE ban on prescribin­g Viagra on the NHS in Britain came under fire from GPs, patients and drug industry chiefs yesterday as it was finally licensed for prescripti­on in Europe. They also attacked health secretary Frank Dobson for branding the anti-impotence pill a ‘party drug’.

LIZ BONNIN, 46. The natural history and science TV presenter, born in France, has hosted the BBC’s Blue Planet Live and Galapagos. The president of The Wildlife Trusts in Britain turned down an offer to study for a PhD at Oxford, instead joining a girl band called Chill, but they were dropped by their record label. She credits David Attenborou­gh for inspiring her career. KENNEY JONES, 74. The drummer found fame with The Who, Faces and Small Faces. He said on royalties, the latter ‘got screwed all the way down the line’. He reunited with The Who in June 2014 at the Rock ’n’ Horsepower benefit concert held at Hurtwood Park Polo Club,

which he owns.

B.B. KING (1925-2015). The U.S. singer-songwriter, born Riley B. King, right, was described as ‘the most eminent and influentia­l blues musician of his generation’. He said his mission was ‘to connect my guitar to human emotion’. King did not have children with either of his wives, but said he had fathered 15 sons and daughters with other women. ANNE FRANCIS (1930-2011). The Golden Globe-winning U.S. actress was the only woman in the film Forbidden Planet and starred in the TV series The Twilight Zone. Francis, who worked as a model aged six, was later described as ‘a blend of the bombshell blondes Monroe and Mansfield’.

ON SEPTEMBER 16 . . .

IN 1620, THE MAYFLOWER set sail from Plymouth for the Americas with 102 passengers, known as the ‘Pilgrims’. IN 1985, KATE BUSH, right, released her album Hounds Of Love. Its lead single, Running Up That Hill, went to No1 37 years later — in June this year — after featuring in the Netflix series, Stranger Things.
