PAH! SILLY QUEUE DOESN’T EVEN HAVE DONUTS

-

LOOK at those daft Brits.

That has been the spirit of much commentary on the long queues of people standing hours in line to pay their respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II, pictured.

Yet queuing serves different societies in different ways. Today, it is an endurance to which many thousands of people from the UK – and far beyond it – are willing to submit, determined as they are to honour their departed queen.

Here, donuts have tended to exercise a similar hold on public sentiment.

Last June, people queued for four hours ahead of the opening of a new donut store in Dublin’s Liffey Valley shopping centre.

Four years ago, a store in the same chain was forced to suspend its 24-hour drive-thru facility in Blanchardstown, Dublin.

This was after several complaints from local residents about the noise that was generated by long the bizarrely long queues needing a late-night sugar hit.

Still, look at those daft Brits.
