LOST TREASURES OF ROME: POMPEII’S LOST TWIN, 7PM, CHANNEL 4

STRICTY Come Dancing was scheduled to being its 20th season tonight but the death of Queen Elizabeth has led to its postponement until next week. However, this documentary looks at an event just as seismic. Pompeii gets all the fame, but another Roman town was buried when Vesuvius blew in 79 AD. Now, archaeologists (including Andrew WallaceHadrill, pictured) are exploring the ruins of the seaside town of Herculaneum; located closer to the volcano’s crater than Pompeii, it was, as a result, coated in five times more ash. It is incredibly well-preserved, and this episode follows the discovery of an intact skeleton there, which helps the experts to piece together the final hours before volcanic catastrophe struck.
