Heart of Glast: Blondie let slip that they’ll be playing festival this year

BLONDIE are to play Glastonbury for the first time since 2014 – with frontwoman Debbie Harry taking to the stage at 77.

Drummer Clem Burke apparently let the news slip out as he discussed the band’s summer schedule yesterday. The rocker, 68, said: ‘We’re doing Isle of Wight and we’re doing some other festivals.

‘I guess it hasn’t really been announced, the full list of artists to be playing Glastonbury, but we are going to be playing Glastonbury. You’ve got an exclusive there,’ he told Foxy Radio. The band, founded in the Seventies by Ms Harry and Chris Stein, first played the festival in 1999 before returning in 2014 when they played hits including Call Me, Heart Of Glass and Hanging On The Telephone.

Last month Guns’n’Roses bassist Duff McKagan appeared to confirm they would also be performing at Worthy Farm in June.

Thousands will make the annual pilgrimage to the site in Pilton, Somerset, when the event kicks off on June 23. Elton John, 75, is the first and only artist who has been officially confirmed to perform, with his headline set on the Pyramid Stage on Sunday night doubling up as his final farewell to the UK.

Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis said this summer’s festival would mark a ‘huge moment in both our histories’, with ‘the mother of all send-offs’. Tickets went on sale last month and sold out within an hour, with many missing out after the site crashed. Resale will take place in April.

Ticket prices have increased to €380, from €320 last year. Last summer saw Paul McCartney headline at the age of 80.
