DAISY JONES & THE SIX, PRIME VIDEO

-

PLAYING a budding rock star feels like a role Riley Keough was born to. After all, her grandfather was The King himself, Elvis Presley – she’s the daughter of Presley’s only child, Lisa Marie, who tragically died in January, aged 54. Riley belts out rock tunes in Amazon’s new musical drama, in a powerful singing voice that she may well have inherited from her grandad. The ten-part series, based on a book by Taylor Jenkins Reid, tells the story of a fictional band, inspired by rock legends Fleetwood Mac. Riley plays Daisy – loosely based on Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks – an LA rich girl who joins The Six, headed by Billy Dunne (Peaky Blinders’ Sam Claflin, pictured with Camila Morrone and Keough). How they deal with fame, fallings-out and substance abuse provides the meat of the story, with most of it told in flashback after the group implodes abruptly at the height of its fame in 1977. The later part of the story is set two decades on, when the middle-aged bandmates tell their version, documentary style, of how it all went wrong.
