FINDING MICHAEL, DISNEY+

-

IN 1999, Michael Matthews became the youngest British person to reach the summit of Everest, but on the descent, the 22-year-old disappeared and was presumed dead. Now, his brother Spencer (pictured) — who shot to fame on the reality show Made In Chelsea — is setting out to try to find Michael’s body. This featurelength documentary follows him as, accompanied by an expert search team, he heads into Everest’s ‘death zone’, and what emerges is a powerful film with a moving emotional core — Spencer was only ten when he was told his beloved brother had died, and there’s a genuine sense that the search will finally help him to come to terms with one of the most traumatic events of his life. But there can be no ignoring the dangers posed by the world’s highest peak, and even though renowned Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal Purja — the 14-peak record holder and star of 14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible (Netflix) — has been enlisted to lead the expedition, Spencer sets off with the pleas of family friend Bear Grylls in his ears: to make sure he returns in one piece.
