RONNIE: TAKE WORLDS AWAY FROM CRUCIBLE
RONNIE O’SULLIVAN has called for the snooker World Championship to be moved from the Crucible, naming Saudi Arabia and China as possible alternatives. The Sheffield venue has hosted every tournament since 1977 but the seven-time champion (right) said: ‘I don’t like the Crucible. Still have a tournament there, but just not the World Championship. It’s a massive circus and you need a massive space. Saudi Arabia have the resources and would do it great. ‘If you’re going to take it to China, courtesy cars will be laid on. Food will be there. Hotels will be great. Everything would be paid for. Prize money would be astronomical.’
GRIFFITH College Éanna won their first ever Super League title, thanks to a 93-61 win over Pyrobel Killester in the final in Tallaght. They led from start to finish, establishing a 10 point advantage at the end of the first quarter, 31-21, Seán Jenkins and Josh Wilson making excellent starts with 14 and 12 points respectively. Éanna kicked on in the second quarter, and led 49-33 at halftime. Killester’s Paul Dick bowed out early in the fourth quarter after his fifth foul, but Éanna’s shooting was exemplary, and they closed it out to win the title with a final score of 93-61.
STEFANOS Tsitsipas brushed aside Casper Ruud to claim a third Monte Carlo Masters title in four years. The Greek took just one hour, 37 minutes to claim a 6-1, 6-4 win over Ruud, who beat Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. ‘This is an unbelievable win for me,’ said 25-year-old Tsitsipas. ‘I really wanted this trinity. I am extremely happy.’
