- By Garreth MacNamee

A MAN whose body was discovered at a house on Sunday afternoon has been named as Shane Knott.

Mr Knott, who was in his 30s, was found dead at a property at Eustace Demesne in Naas, Co. Kildare.

It appeared he had died a violent death and a man in his 40s was arrested as a result.

Gardaí believe Mr Knott, who was not living in the area, had been missing from his home for several days.

Officers were alerted by a friend of the deceased who contacted a local Garda station and said he had been told by a mutual associate that the man lay dead in the house.

Gardaí carried out a welfare check and discovered the body.

It is believed Mr Knott died by blunt force trauma and officers were last night attempting to locate the implement used to kill him.

One avenue of investigation is that Mr Knott was killed days ago and that his body lay undiscovered for some time.

While it is early in the investigation, gardaí said they are not searching

‘It’s quite likely he died a few days ago’

for anyone else. One source told the Irish Daily Mail: ‘Mr Knott’s friend had reported him missing several days ago. His family had been very worried for his safety.

‘It’s quite likely he died a few days ago. The way gardaí are looking at it is that he was killed and that the perpetrator left the scene.

‘It was only that a friend of Mr Knott’s came into a Garda station and told officers that he had been told by someone else that Shane had been killed at the house.

‘Obviously, gardaí were concerned and went out to the home and that’s where they found him.’

A Garda spokesman said: ‘The body of a man was discovered at approximately 1.30pm at a residence in Eustace Demesne in Naas. The body has since been removed to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital.

‘The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post mortem is expected to take place, the results of which will determine the course of the Garda investigation.

‘The scene remains preserved for technical examination this evening.

‘A man in his 40s has been arrested as part of this investigation.’
