CARLI NORRIS (pictured with Simon Shepherd), who played Belinda Slater in EastEnders, stars in this mini-series from 1999 as the hearty lass who, in Northumber­land, 1838, lives a simple life on the family farm. It’s time for her to be in service or married off, but she can read and write and has her own mind, and no interest in the brutish local lad who wants to court her. Tilly is the archetypal Catherine words, ‘arguably the most irritating man alive’. There are some wellknown faces to watch out for in the supporting cast, including Still Game’s Greg Hemphill as the sisters’ dad, along with Kate Dickie (Game Of Thrones) and Ben Rufus Green (The Cockfields). Autism is also a central theme of Storrie’s autobiogra­phical radio show What’s The Story, Ashley Storrie?, the new, second series of which continues on BBC Radio 4 on Thursdays at 6.30pm – and you can find all previous episodes on BBC Sounds.
