A real hammy actor! Hollander’s plan to land roles... by getting fat

Star, 56, was going to let himself go but changed mind after son’s birth

MANY aspiring leading men hit the gym to shape up for their next role.

But Tom Hollander considered letting himself go to become a ‘fat actor’ so he would always get parts.

The White Lotus star, 56, felt that at a ‘certain age’ he’d ‘give up trying to not be fat and become a fat actor because they never stop working’.

He added: ‘There’s always room for a fat actor – Orson Welles or the dear Richard Griffiths, you think they’re loved.’

But after becoming a father for the first time with partner Fran Hickman, 43, Hollander, who named his son Kit, says he now ‘needs to live as long as I can’.

Admitting to a ‘bit of a compulsion’ to overeat, he told the Ruthie’s Table podcast that he recently went to an Austrian clinic to lose some weight after putting it on for a role.

He said: ‘I’m always trying to discipline myself but I do have a tendency to, I love eating, and I also eat my feelings which people do, and if you do it too much it’s not good for you, so I do other things.

‘To be at war with food, which you can be, is not good and I do have a sense of that because of being an actor where you become inevitably obsessed with your appearance.

‘It has a tendency to make you think “I mustn’t eat, I mustn’t eat, I mustn’t eat, so I’m beautiful, beautiful, beautiful”. It’s never really made any difference.

‘But I can’t do that, I don’t want to do that, because I now need to live as long as I can.’

The Mail revealed that Hollander and Ms Hickman were expecting their first child last summer.

Formerly engaged, the couple rekindled their broken-off romance during the pandemic lockdown, having decided to part ways back in 2010.

Despite splitting almost a decade prior, the pair sparked rumours that they had rekindled their romance in 2021 after they were seen having dinner in salubrious Mayfair in London.

As reported by the MailOnline, friends of the couple had previously expressed their desire for The Night Manager actor to get down on one knee once more and propose – however there are no signs that a wedding is on the cards any time soon.
