QUESTION

Dear Linda, Please can you help me with a very delicate situation. My parents separated when I was very young due to my father’s drinking.

Unfortunately he was never in my life and I now believe it was due to my mother being very bitter toward him. He got in touch with me last year after almost 30 years which my mother wasn’t pleased about.

However, he is now terminally ill and may only have a year to live. He has expressed he would like to spend more time with me and his grandchildren, but my mother is making me choose between them. I dearly want to spend whatever time he has left getting to know him.

He has been in recovery for 10 years and said he had written to my mother over the years expressing his apologies for their troublesome past and making it clear he wished to see me but she never let me know.

It was only through his present day partner who got in touch with me that I have found out. I am angry and hurt that my mother deprived me of making up my own mind even as an adult, and is trying to continue keeping us apart by telling me if I choose to see him she doesn’t want me around her. Please advise. R.

ANSWER

Dear R, This is indeed a delicate matter and leaves you in a very awkward position. That said, your mother is obviously bitter about their relationship and no doubt needs to forgive, forget and move on. She may need professional counselling on the matter and perhaps you could discuss that scenario with her. It is a long time to be carrying unforgiveness, and unfair of her to put you in this situation. As a child you may have had no say in the matter but as an adult you must do what you feel is right for you and your children.

▮ FIRST CARD: SERENITY

Peace of mind means feeling secure, and knowing that you’re always provided for. Even if your logical mind cannot fathom how a challenge could be resolved, peace of mind means that you trust God will create a miraculous solution. By drawing this card, the angels reassure you that peace of mind is within you.

You can feel serene, even in the midst of great turmoil. First you work towards serenity, and then your life challenges lessen and disappear. Serenity is your natural state of mind, and the angels are now working with you to actualise this.

▮ ADVICE/OBSTACLE: DON’T BACK DOWN

‘Stand up for what you believe is right.’ First be quite clear about your intentions. If you’re unclear, then confusion will lessen your power and force. Like a candle in the dark, be very clear and bright in what is acceptable to you in this situation. Even in the face of fear, you can still stand up for your ideals and your truth.

▮ OUTCOME: FOCUSED INTENTION

Tenacity means sticking to a decision and not allowing outside forces to sway you. Imagine yourself to be like a mighty oak tree, and your roots deeply planted into Mother Earth. Feel your solid strength and steady upward growth. Know that, no matter what happens, you will succeed!
