Ipswich so close... thanks to Chelsea’s Omari

- ROSS HEPPENSTALL

AS the Premier League comes into increasing focus for Ipswich, Omari Hutchinson showed once again that he is destined for a future at the highest level. The Chelsea forward, 20, is enjoying a season-long loan with Kieran McKenna’s side and scored two stunning long-range efforts in this Saturday-night thriller. It took Hutchinson’s season tally to 10 and team-mate Massimo Luongo said: ‘Omari was incredible. He’s a great lad first and foremost and a good player, so I’m excited to see what direction he goes in. ‘He’s in a great place to learn his trade, playing in big games like this and Tuesday at Coventry. I’m sure he’ll go far if he keeps his feet on the ground.’ Victory against the Sky Blues tomorrow would put Ipswich within touching distance of the Premier League for the first time since 2002. They need four points from their last two games to seal automatic promotion and Luongo added: ‘It’s incredible. We’ve just got to keep our heads screwed on but honestly, I just think we’re all enjoying the ride and these highpressure games.

‘There’s a good mix in the squad — we’re all good lads who want to work hard for each other and do our best. Of course we believe we can finish the job.’ Should Ipswich take at least a point at Coventry, then Saturday’s visit of doomed Huddersfield could see the mother of all parties should the Tractor Boys seal back-to-back promotions. Huddersfield boss Andre Breitenreiter, meanwhile, threatened to go public on their disastrous campaign. The German became the Terriers’ fourth manager this season in February, but has managed just two wins and now looks certain to leave. Trailing Plymouth by three points and an inferior goal difference by 15, they are effectively down already. Breitenreiter said: ‘I’m here for two and a half months. It’s clear there must be some big problems in the club, in the team. ‘I cannot tell you about some of the unacceptable things that have happened here — things I haven’t experienced in my 30 years in the business. ‘After the season, I can tell you more if it’s the right moment or necessary. But now we have to concentrate on the last game.’ American tycoon Kevin Nagle bought Huddersfield last summer and spoke of reaching the Premier League within three years. Breitenreiter added: ‘I joined Huddersfield because of the visions for the future if first we should cross the line. But it was not possible because of many problems.’
