School staff honour for flood relief

- By BRYN PATTISON

STAFF have been honoured for their hard work during a crisis flood at a school earlier this year.

The Sodexo facilities management staff at Gallen School in Ferbane, Co Offaly, were given a Special Team Effort gong at the firm’s Star Awards recently.

Manager Eoin Morgan accepted it at a gala dinner for 640 people in London, while school caretaker Seamus Dolan was named Star Employee of the Year.

Seamus, who also works as an emergency responder for his local fire station, notified authorities when a river bank burst beside the school on New Year’s Day.

Sodexo’s Margot Slattery said: “With a workforce in the tens of thousands it takes something very special to stand out and Eoin, Seamus and the Ferbane team have done just that.”
