Nine held in ‘Thor’ raids

THE Late Late Toy Show was the most watched show on Irish TV this year with 1.4 million people tuning in.

RTE’S annual festive special managed to attract an average audience share of 77% on Friday, making it the top show across all Irish channels for 2016.

The national broadcaste­r yesterday also revealed the Toy Show was watched in 102 countries around the world – including the Cayman Islands, Lebanon, Jamaica, Qatar and Nepal – through their streaming and play-back service RTE Player.

The top five countries to stream the Late Late Toy Show internatio­nally were the UK, US, Australia, Spain and Canada.

This year’s Toy Show, which was inspired by The Jungle Book, was the most popular since 2011 and the viewing figures show an increase of almost 100,000 on last year’s total.

Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy said the kids who appeared on Friday’s Toy Show NINE men were arrested yesterday in a number of early morning raids.

Eight homes in Waterford were searched as part of Operation Thor, with items including house-breaking implements and stolen property recovered.

The men were being detained last night.
