SILLY BILLY

Shop rampage goat attacks OAP

- BY CHRIS KILPATRICK

A RAMPAGING goat headbutted a pensioner and forced shoppers to cower as it laid siege to a store.

Staff and customers ran for cover as the animal headed into the Eurospar in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim.

Manager Jonathan Smyth said the goat charged at one of his customers – named Billy – and “butted” him before he managed to pull the stricken pensioner to safety.

The 23-year-old told the Irish Mirror: “It lasted for about 30 minutes.

“I was getting the shop ready for opening and I heard a knocking. I thought it was a customer looking in.

“I looked over and there was a goat standing on its hind legs against the door. It all just kicked off from there.

“It started trying to attack people and jumping on to cars. It was a big goat, people were genuinely afraid.”

The goat began to tuck into flower baskets and leapt on top of cars as terrified punters locked themselves inside the store.

The shop boss added: “There was a wee pensioner, Billy, who is in his 70s.

“He was walking across and we tried to warn him. He didn’t understand us shouting, ‘Watch out for the goat!’

“Myself and another fella grabbed him and pulled him into the shop out of harm. “He wasn’t injured and we got him calmed down.

“Another woman was trying to use the ATM and I shouted ‘goat!’

“She had to run straight back to her car. It jumped onto a car and stared at the people inside. It was crazy.”

A man believed to be the goat’s owner arrived at the shop and dragged the runaway from the scene by the horns on Saturday morning.
