TREATING A CHILD’S STUFFY NOSE

-

Clear your baby’s nose by using nasal saline to loosen the mucus then suck it out with a little nasal aspirator.

If your child is able, have them blow their nose regularly.

Never use a cold or cough medicine in children under the age of four unless a paediatrician suggests it. Rub petroleum jelly under the nose to prevent any chapping.

See your GP as soon as possible if symptoms last longer than two or three days, your child is congested, has a severe cough, is breathing fast and has a fever with a cough or ear pain.

Never try to clear your child’s stuffy nose with a cotton bud – you’ll only push the mucus further up the nose.
