DUCKETT OUT AS MORGAN RETURNS

- FROM DEAN WILSON

EOIN MORGAN has elbowed Ben Duckett back out of the England one-day squad as he returns from his self-imposed Bangladeshi exile to skipper the side.

Dubliner Morgan and Alex Hales, stayed at home in October, but are both named in the one-day and T20 squads to play India in the new year as Duckett and James Vince miss out.

England are bringing a full-strength side back to the sub-continent at the start of a year that includes the Champions Trophy on home soil, meaning Test stars Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid are the three men involved in everything so far this winter. Joe Root is also named in both squads. His fiancee is due to have their first baby before the tour, but the Test vice-captain is keen to play after missing the Bangladesh one-day series.

“Morgan and Hales returning was not even discussed,” said coach Trevor Bayliss. “The decision was that there would not be any recriminations against them and they are straight back in.

“We took the opportunity to blood younger players who did well and there was a lot of discussion around Duckett.

“He did well in Bangladesh. We thought that Duckett has done himself no harm.

“He has shot up the pecking order and he is right there or thereabouts. He has done well for himself but we thought we would show solidarity with the team we have had and done so well in last 12-18 months.”
