Karius the weak link
BOURNEMOUTH targeted Liverpool keeper Loris Karius as a “weakness” ahead of Sunday’s stunning 4-3 victory.
The Cherries came from 3-1 down to record their firstever win over the Anfield club and defender Steve Cook revealed that underfire Karius – who has struggled to adapt to the Premier League since his summer move from Mainz – was singled out for special attention. Cook said: “I’ve got to be honest – we did target him as a weakness in the Liverpool side.
“We felt that he was under pressure and we tried to press him and get as many shots off as possible.”
Karius, voted second-best keeper in the Bundesliga last season, has hardly convinced since his £5million transfer. He was branded “not good enough” by Kop legend Jamie Carragher after Sunday’s match and criticised by fans.
Manager Jurgen Klopp insisted Bournemouth’s late winner was not the keeper’s fault, even though he spilled a tame shot from Cook into the path of Nathan Ake.
